Sterile Synthetic Absorbable
Monofilament Poly (p-dioxanone)
1-DESCRIPTION : (Chemical structure, dying)
EGY-PDS is a sterile synthetic absorbable suture based on Poly (p-Dioxanone). EGY-PDS is a synthetic monofilament suture.
EGY-PDS sutures are available both dyed (violet) and undyed. When dyed, only FDA-approved color additives such as D&C violet No. 2 are used. The undyed EGY-PDS is golden yellow in color, EGY-PDS meets all requirements established by the united states pharmacopeia (USP) and the European pharmacopoeia (EP).
2-INDICATION:
EGY-PDS sutures are indicated for use in general soft tissues approximation including pediatric cardiovascular tissue, ophthalmic surgery and microsurgery. This sutures are indicated when extended wound support is needed (more than 6 weeks) while absorbable suture is desirable. Its soft and smooth structure provides easy handling and high surgical knot security.
3-ABSORPTION:
EGY-PDS absorption occurs by means of hydrolysis, where the copolymer degrades to the monomeric acid 2-hydroxyethoxyacetic acid which is subsequently absorbed and metabolized in the body.
Breaking strength retention: In-vivo test showed that EGY-PDS retain equals to or more than 50% of original tensile strength at 4 weeks after implantation. Absorption is completed between 180 to 210 days.
4-HOW SUPPLIED:
EGY-PDS Sutures are available sterile strands in USP sizes ranging from 8/0 through 2 (metric size 0.4 through 5) in a variety of lengths and needles.
EGY-PDS sutures are available in one dozen box.
5-Sterilization:
EGY-PDS is sterilized by ethylene oxide gas (ETO).
