EGYCRYL extra is a sterile synthetic absorbable suture with antibacterial based on copolymer

made from 90% Glycolide and 10% L-Lactide.

EGYCRYL extra sutures coated with equal combination of copolymer (Glycolide and Lactide)

,calcium stearate and Chlorhexidine diacetate which act as broad spectrum antibacterial

agent with maximum dose 60 μg/m.

The sutures are available dyed violet D&C #2(CI 60725) and undyed. EGYCRYL extra complies

with the requirement of USP and EP.

 

 

EGYCRYL extra sutures are intended for use in general soft tissues approximation &/or

ligation including ophthalmic surgery, peripheral nerve anastomosis and microsurgery for

vessels less than 2mm diameter.

 

 

EGYCRYL extra Absorption occurs by means of hydrolysis, where the copolymer degrades

to glycolic and lactic acids which are subsequently absorbed and metabolized in the body.

Absorption begins as a loss of tensile strength and end by a total loss of mass.

Breaking strength retention: In vivo test showed that EGYCRYL extra retain equals to or

more than 65 %( average 75%) of oregenal tensile streangth at 2 weeks after implantation.

Absorption is essentially complete between 55 to70 days.

Note: Using zone of inhibition studies, Chlorhexidine diacetate in Coated EGYCRYL extra

has been shown to inhibit colonization of the suture by Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus

epidermidis and Methicillin Resistant S. epidermidis which are microorganisms

known to contribute to surgical site infections. Animal studies have demonstrated that

EGYCRYL extra inhibits bacterial colonization of suture after direct in vivo challenge with

bacteria. The clinical significance of this finding is unknown.

 

 

Coated EGYCRYL extra Sutures are available sterile, as braided dyed (violet) and undyed

strands in USP sizes 10/0 through 2 (metric size 0.2through 5) in a variety of lengths with

or without needles.

EGYCRYL extra sutures are available in one dozen box.

 

 

EGYCRYL extra is sterilized by ethylene oxide gas (ETO).
